'Chokhaunee', a realistic story

Movie based on 'Chokhaunee', a realistic story by Madan Puraskar winner Mahesh Bikaram shah.

Chokhaunee is a story of an indigenous Tharu woman who breaks with social norms and values so as to satisfy her sexual urge-which has been suppressed due to the patriarchal society structure and the second marriage of her husband. She is prepared to accept the dire consequences of her actions.At the same time, this story describes a society where extramarital relation, though not welcomed, does not destroy all the relation of family social structure.It shows the difference in the male dominaated curative measure of healing broken realtions through the tourture of women-the difference that a woman bears all the pain of her husabnd fooling around with his second wife rightin front of her but the man has to physically char the woman to be satisfied of the pain of his shame.
